Just tried anyway December 31, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentToday's weather forecast said, "rain" and that's it, no "partially cloudy" or anything. But, I woke up and yes it was cloudy and a bit rainy and for some reason, I went out the door. Although I finished the ride with just 24km.
The ride: I was riding a bit over the usual pace just so I could go for a quick 40 or 50km but it started to rain way before I expected it to rain. After 10km, my cycle computer passed out again and this REALLY freaked me out. What if the odo meter shows 0? oooooo, goosebumps, eh? Fortunately, it was okay…phew!!! Then it started to rain so I raced my way back home. What a day…nothing went as planned, hehe, I guess I'll just call it "the usual day." ave speed 27.5kph, ave cadence: ?? (my sensor was having one of "those" days) time 53'40.
Tomorrow: Forecast says it'll be cloudy in the afternoon so maybe I'll have a ride, just be very cautious out there, especially with those white lines…yikes, they freak me out!!! Also will have a run afterwards, I hope.
What a worthless day December 30, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentToday, I woke up at 8:45am and it was pouring outside so I ate breakfast and went back to bed still having some hope for the sun to come out and dry everything. I woke up at 2pm and it was still raining. How much more water you got up there? Just pour it all today and don't come back for a while guys…I know I should have done some muscle training but nothing really motivated me so none of that happened. Should I have gone out in the rain with my mtb? but since I've been on the road bike, mtb hasn't been much fun anymore. I've been everywhere nearby and always wanna go somewhere far and that's when a road bike comes in handy, right?
Tomorrow: It looks like the rain will continue for a few more days but I'll find something to do. After all, I still have a lot to go for the challenge 1000km…
Was I "hangin in there?" December 29, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentToday wasn't much of a good day at all until after the swim. My legs feel a bit tired but once I start riding, no pain…it just gets numb but today, I stopped and went home because my cyclocomputer (is that what you call it?) wasn't making any effort. Both my cadence and speed was at 0 so I took a guess, it's my sensor's batteries getting low. HA! I was right although I didn't feel like going out again so instead, I did some bike maintenance. Look at what I got!!!
A new cassette and a new chainring, for free!!! Not…I cleaned it:-) Isn't it shiny?
The swim: It was like a punch in the stomach…the coach wasn't there!!! So, he left a training menu for us but it was a lot to do in one hour. Looked at the bottom of the paper and it said 1:02, so he knows it's not gonna fit in one hour, hehe. Swam a total of 2700m and 1800m of it was intervals…the menu was designed for the fast guys so I really had absolutely NO time to rest. Well, the 1800m…I pretty much swam the whole time. It was suppose to be divided into 100m intervals but for me, it was more like a 1800m swim, I guess I was hangin in there? After I finished, the fast guys were laughing and said, "Man, did you rest at all?" Nope, hehe. I guess this is what happens when I slack off on swimming, it's my first one this week. Also had a tough time riding to the pool and back, 19.5km.
Tomorrow: The weather forecast says, "rain" which I won't be able to know the truth until tomorrow morning. If it's cloudy, I'm thinking of going for another long ride+short run, brick;-)
Signed up for a marathon!! December 28, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentAll I need, is some motivation…I'm soo into biking and am slacking out on the runs, by the way, I wonder what happened to the ultramarathon schedule, hehe. It sort of disappeared after the test and swimming in the athlete whatever course. Now, I guess I could just do some base training instead of following the schedule.
Today, I had a short 5km ride to the post office to sign up for Okinawa Marathon. After that, I ate some lunch and went out for a 63km ride and a 2.5km run afterwards.
The ride: The moment I sat on the saddle, I just knew I wouldn't last 20km but for some reason, I went out to my old hill climb (17.3km) course and had a horrible time, not on the hills but on the flats, the mighty wind was strong. After that, I thought about going back home and really went towards home but didn't make the last turn and decided to go for another 40km which I took three long cuts and ended up becoming a 46km ride. It was one of the weirdest rides, my mind wanted to go one way but my body took me to the other. 17.3km hill climb: 44'17, ave speed 23.2kph, average cadence 63rpm. 46km ride: 1:55'53, average speed 23.7kph, average cadence 63rpm.
The run: Short but really tiring. I was already exhausted from the ride and it was the so called, "brick". No big problems other than that it's been a long time since I had a run!!! Good to be back but now that I've signed up for the marathon, I gotta get my but outta this chair. Time was 10:17.
Tomorrow: As always, I'll see how things go, especially because the cold is still sitting in me…darn it!!! This morning I woke up with a soar throat and now, my throat feels weird and my nose is runny. Maybe go for a long ride depending on how good/bad the cold gets and then a run will probably follow. Wait, it's Wednesday, pool day!!! Will I go for a swim…not sure.
Never did it this easy December 27, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentToday, I again woke up so damn late…Well, I did wake up at 7am but went back to bed at 8:30 and I ended up going out for a ride at 10:30. I hated the weather because it looked like it was gonna rain at any second plus the temp was sooo subtle. If I wore a windbreaker, it'll be hot on the hills but if I don't, it'll be cold going down. I decided not to wear the windbreaker and now that I'm back from the ride, I still don't know if I made the right decision.
The ride: I went 106km and was kinda in a hurry, thought it was gonna rain but didn't so was it a waste of energy? Not really but made me wonder what all the "pedaling against the headwinds" was about. On the other hand, it was a nice ride going back:-) First 53km: ave speed 25.8kph, ave cadence 66rpm, time 2:02'58. Next 53km, ave speed 26.3kph, ave cadence 67rpm, time 2:00'30. Fairly good, I like the ave speed but it wasn't really a LSD ride, I have a hard time doing that.
Tomorrow: I wanna go for another long ride but will have to check on weather and stuff like that. Maybe a run afterwards if I have some energy left.
Haircut December 26, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentAnother lazy day, today. Instead of going for the LSD ride, I slept all day and went to get my haircut in the afternoon. So that leaves me with 10km on the mtb, big difference. I was pretty stressed with my hair because it was getting so damn long…hehe. Finally got it cut, thought about getting it tomorrow but I remembered that it's their day off. Weird, they work on Christmas and close the next day. After the haircut, I went to the bike store and bought a windbreaker and a long sleeve jersey kinda thing.
Tomorrow: Now, I really need to go out for a ride. Don't know how long but just gotta get out the door…unless it's rainy or something. Happy holidays!!!
Starting to dream December 25, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentSo, I had a long rest and it only lasts until today. Back to training tomorrow and I had a lot of brainstorming type of things going on in my head. If I get back to training, 10years from now I'll be saying, "man, just ride to the grocery store, it's only 90km away…" If I don't get back to training, I'll gain a lot of weight and eat a lot of junk. I'd rather pick training:-)
Starting tomorrow, I think I'm gonna have a bunch of long rides and short runs that follow. Perfect for base training…I won't worry about speed, just endurance. Probably start taking some protein and amino acids too.
Tomorrow's long ride: I'm planning for atleast 80km and see how my legs go. If they feel fine, maybe even a first attempt, 150km. It will be a big step towards becoming an ironman…hehe. Thinking of taking some energy gels and try them instead of eating bread which makes me thirsty. I'm wondering which to wear, long pants/ shirt or shorts…The high is 20C and the low is 15C. Oh yeah, I'm gonna set a starting point and an end point for my TT. Is 10km good enough? We'll see how things work out.
Tired of resting December 24, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentI took today off too and my throat still hurts a bit. I took some medicine, washed my hands, gargled, drank water and slept. Is there something that I didn't do? It's so easy to catch the cold but it's hard to get rid of it. Kinda like triathlon, eh? It's hard to get the speed/endurance but it's easy to lose it.
You know what? I'm getting sick and tired of watching tv…They show similar things on every chanel. Well, I would call it the same when it comes to news. They'll show the same murder/ robbery/ weather forecast on each and every channel. What's the use of a controller? Why not just make the whole tv stuff in one tv station? A lot of people doing the same work to get the same information just doesn't make sense to me. It's much more efficient if each person has something different to research on. Well, making groups and working together is good but WOW, that's a lot of tv stations covering the same crap. Maybe I'm just stressed out because of this cold but that really is a lot of tv stations with the same news…the only difference I see is the reporter's face.
Tomorrow: I'll go out for a short ride if I feel better. If not, I'll study and stuff like that.
Lazy day with friends December 23, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentSchool is finally off for winter vacation, I thought I'll have my ride but the soar throat was and still is bothering me. I used to take cough drops which never worked at these kinda times but today, I chewed gum, which worked better than the average cough drop…Awkward, eh? Wonder why.
The day: After school, I walked home in the stupid stormy weather. To be specific, it was raining a bit, the temp was 12C and the wind was something similar to a typhoon, or in other words, it was a typhoon:-( My throat hurts like hell so I decided to stay home and take a good rest while watching some dvds at home. What did I watch? I watched Friends, the third season. The weird thing was that I was too lazy to change the dvd and ended up watching the last few episodes three times each. Then I watched a portion of the second season. So, I was in the living room for 8hrs, out of that, I slept about 3hrs.
Tomorrow: I'm thinking of resting again for my body to recover. If I don't recover soon, what will I do with the 1000km challenge? hmmm….ride 100km a day or something like that, hehe…possible and I'm really thinking of trying that.
Still need some rest December 22, 2005
Posted by clayton in : workout , add a commentI thought I completely recovered from my cold but I guess not. OR, maybe I did but since I take classes in a closed up room, I inhaled tons of polluted air. This is what I hate about winter, I catch a cold from going to school and there really isn't any way to prevent this from happening. But does that mean I don't have to go to school? Nope…I think we should get a longer break time to go catch some fresh air during winter, it's not that I don't like taking classes but I HATE catching the colds at school. I felt just fine this morning and now, it's like hell. If I left the window open and slept and then caught a cold, I get to blame myself so that's fine with me. I catch it at school, who do I get to blame it on? I wash my hands, I gargle…
Today's swim: Probably swam about 1200m. It's been exactly 1week since the last time I swam so I feel pretty damn tired. Oh yeah, the fasteset 100m I swam was something like 1min50sec…and it was speed training, aren't I getting slow?
Tomorrow: I'm looking forward for a long ride after school, maybe about 60km ( is that long? in the middle of long and short) and then I'll go for a swim if this stupid cold goes away. If not, I'll have a short run and take the rest. Take care!!!
