How much is too much? January 9, 2006

I started writing in my "triathlon diary 2006" that came with one of the triathlon magazines I bought. You know what? It's a lot of fun, I think I got to know what kind of person I am. So, what kinda a persom am I? I filled in the last blank for the week (the week ends every Sunday) and I found out that I've ridden 385km on the bike…That means I'm the kind of guy who waits till the last minute to finish something, the 1000km challenge. Still not done yet though…40km to go with one day left, piece of cake!!!

Triathlon diary 2006: I flipped one page back and checked last week's total hours of training, 11:06'07. I had a lot of question marks above my head because this week's total hours of training is, 23:22'01. 4:30 in the pool, 17:12'39 on the bike, 24'22.77 running and 1:15 with the yoga ball and other "muscle toys." Now, let's take a look at the run, WHAT!?!?!? 24min…That will definitely be better next week, it better be or I'll kill myself at the marathon…

Today's ride: I went for 112km which was planned to be 110km but I had a hard time finding a way to get over to the other side of the street. My left knee started hurting at 40km and from then on, I focused on "pulling" the pedal upwards rather than pushing it downwards cause it's so PAINFUL!!! There were sooo many roadies riding around, oh, I guess they're doing the challenge too. And these roadies, damn they're fast…I was pedaling at an "even pace" of 32kph and 2roadies caught up and went passed me. I got back to them but when I was like 15m from them, the traffic light changed and I guess my effort to catch up turned into nothing:-( Well, it left me with more pain, hehe. I did pass two other roadies though, one at 60km and the other around 70km. I was suprised when I passed the second roadie cause he was way ahead of me and I saw him going the other way at 45km, guess he was really tired.

My new tires were a blast!!! I was able to feel the grip with my butt, feet and hands. Makes me wonder what it's like to get a racing wheel, heard it makes a huge difference but it's just unaffordable for me. Should I change my front tire too? Probably be able to control more. my lap time from the halfway point back home got much better. Just looking at the numbers wouldn't really tell a story but keep in mind that I had a real bad knee pain while riding. 1st 56km- 2:21'38, ave speed 23.7kph, ave cadence 75rpm. 2nd 56km- 2:08'58, ave speed 26.1kph, ave cadence 66rpm. Total 4:30'36

Today's run: 5km with knee pain but I got used to it a bit. Real slow because I was tired and just dragged myself out the door back to the cold to have a run!!! When's the last time I actually did that? It was supposed to be 15km but I didn't wanna break any bones out there. 1st-11'59.58, 2nd-12'23.19. I'll have to drag myself out more often;-)

Tomorrow: I'll have a 40km ride, ofcourse. Even if it rains, 40km is a reasonable distance to ride on the trainer, isn't it? Then, I'll take my two computers to the bike store and get my socks!! I heard that they're gonna give the "LIVESTRONG" wristband kinda thingy out to every person who got through 1000km. That'll be a lot of motivation when you read it while you're going through the toughest times of a ride, eh? Maybe I should change my front tire. After I'm done with all of that, I'll have a run and then a swim. The last thing I've got to do at the end of tomorrow? Become a dead man walking home, hehe. If I'm able to do all that, it'll become real. Hope I don't run out of energy too early, wish me luck!!!
