Rough and tough but not enough!!! November 23, 2006
Posted by clayton in : workout , 3 commentsDamn, last night was pretty disastrous. It was raining so hard that the window looked more like a painting, a bad one, too… And using the umbrella wasn’t the brightest idea, the raindrops would just hit the ground and bounce back up, hehe.
Oh yeah, and going to the swimming pool by bike was quite fun, too:-) I tell you, it was worth it!!! I could only go once a week and just couldn’t give it up. We did a total of 1350m, not much but I liked it.
200m warm up, 100m kick underwater, 25m*8 dolphin kick, 200m power pull, 50m loosen up, 25m*4 one handed butterfly, 25m*4 butterfly, 200m medley, 25m*4 butterfly, 100m cool down.
The 200m warm up&medley was a disaster. I still haven’t got my endurance level back to where it was before… Atleast my arms felt less crampy than last week, which I take as a good signal, hehe.
Today, I had my first run in 15days, after that incident in front of McDonalds!!!! aaarrrrggghh. A short 6km and again, my endurance level is way lower than before. I felt some drowsiness in my legs, they were completely out of energy after the run… but it felt good and relaxed.
1-10′49, 2-11′30, 3-10′43, a total of 33′03.
As you can see, I took it easy there, on the 2nd lap. I thought it was a decent start, it wasn’t like I was drooling and killing myself to finish the workout. I’ve been thinking about signing up for a marathon that’s coming up in February, 2007. But still gotta see how things workout. Good luck everyone!!!
Monochromatic vs. Colored November 17, 2006
Posted by clayton in : workout , 1 comment so farI love looking at photos but I suck at taking them. For some reason, the black and white photos seem to look better than the colored ones (for me) when it comes to artistic impressions.
Which looks better?
Don’t talk about the photographer’s technique, I know I suck, hehe.
I still think the black and white photo looks slightly better…
So, I netsurfed. Just thought I might be able to find out why. Luckily, I found an article from a “photo technique” kinda magazine. Click here if you wanna read it. I know all this has nothing to do with triathlons but I looked back at my old posts and they all looked the same, all about tris and it bored me out a bit.
On the other hand, I found a professional photographer’s website that had beautiful, colored pics. I think he gives a strong impact on the “colors”. His name is Pete Turner. I only found his website today, so I’m not quite sure of his background but I really liked the photos. Especially the photo of Times Square(in misc. 1). I felt the coldness in the snow and it felt like the last race of the tri season just ended, into base phase, we go!!
Good luck strengthening your core!!!
How hard can a 100m swim be? November 16, 2006
Posted by clayton in : workout , 2 commentsAfter taking 3 months off from training? Last night’s swim was quite hard… I looked at the workout(the coach wrote it on a paper) and it was only a 1900m swim using up one whole hour. The swims are usually 2000~2700m/hour so I thought it would be a recovery swim or something. But 3 months does make a difference…
The workout went like this: 200m warm up, 25m*8(backward medley) 1′00, 100m kick under water(3′00)+50m sculling(2′00)+100m swim(easy/hard/easy/hard, 2′00)+25m*2 medley(1′00), 4sets. And a 100m cool down.
I was breathing okay, but my arms and shoulders were out of shape, I guess. I just couldn’t push. It felt like I lost control of my arms. Sad but this is reality, I have to start again. Be optimistic and say it’s a chance to “reform” my form. Get rid of all the bad habits and stuff.
So, I’m expecting another tough swim next week but I’ll get used to it somehow, hehe. Good luck everyone!!!
Back in the game November 14, 2006
Posted by clayton in : workout , 2 commentsIt wasn’t the ideal way of getting back, I guess a 10km run+swim+10km run wasn’t the best workout to start with…hehe. I injured my ankle in front of McDonalds last Wednesday:-( There was this one triangular rubber thingy that covered an electrical cord that led to one of McD’s signs and I stepped on it in a weird way.
Is it my fault that I didn’t watch where I was going? because I really don’t think anyone would expect this triangular rubber to exist on public roads/sidewalks. I’d probably get a million dollars if this happened in the US. If I remember correctly, I heard that one woman ordered hot coffee, spilt it on herself and sued McDonalds for not having a warning on the cup.
The next morning, I started getting some stomach problems…errr…didn’t sound too well. I guess my stomach knew when and when not to hurt, it was fine at school but the second I got home, PAIN!!! Smart stomach, don’t you think? Well, it lasted until today, Tuesday, so I took a day off from school and went to the hospital nearby. I drank some medicine before I went and the doctor didn’t know why in the world I was having problems, hehe. Here’s the great news (that a lot of guys will use their imagination and start smiling while reading), I talked to a beautiful nurse;-) She was nice, and since there weren’t any people around, she came over and talked to me. I can’t remember what she said, I think I was just looking at her the whole time, but I do remember myself responding, hehe. When I was in the lobby, after everything was done, I saw the same nurse trying to pin a poster on the bulletin board with another nurse. For some reason, they were trying to pin it up at a really high place and the cute nurse climbed up on a small shelf, then the woman at the front desk said, “I could see your panties.” and the cute nurse said, “I’m showing it on purpose.” Ofcourse, it’s a joke, hehe. But guess what? I was the only one around… She was cute though…I guess being sick is sometimes great, aint I right, guys? hehe. After I started training for tris, women started flirting a bit, does that mean I’m getting fit? It doesn’t happen all the time, maybe twice a month or so:-)
Back to the main topic, getting back in the game. Well, my plan was to start with a hard, painful base training but since that didn’t work well, I’ll change it to a build up. Swim once a week, bike only on weekends and run 30km/week when my ankle heals. Maybe have a slow start with the base phase and all.
Hope you all do fine and take care!!!
