The Crisis September 1, 2007

Posted by clayton in : workout , add a comment

hmmm…It’s not even September yet and I’m already facing a crisis in which I may not be able to accomplish one of my September goals. The goal of stretching and doing light weights everyday. Why? Well it’s a bit weird. My grandparents came over to stay for the weekend up until Monday or so, which was expected, but then they’re staying in MY ROOM!!! and I’m here writing this blog post in my temporary room, my stepmom’s office. I’m on a sofa-bed and I am not complaining that this thing is uncomfortable because it is actually quite comfy:) It’s just that I’ve always stretched and did all the light weights in my room.

So, I moved all of my stretching/light weight equipment into my dad’s neat little excercise room, which I’ve never considered doing my stretches or the light weights in. It’s pretty small. I came up with another question, ‘Why haven’t I considered using this room for stretching in the first place?’ It’s a pretty cool room with a nice home gym, treadmill, elliptical trainer, and weights. The excercise room is isolated from all the other rooms so at night, it is very peaceful and calm, exactly how I like it to be. I’ve started out with a problem and now I’m quite excited about doing my stretches at night, alone in the peacefulness:) What a lucky day…or I mean night.

Goals for September, 2007 August 30, 2007

Okay, my legs aren’t fully recovered from the injury I’ve had in January. It’s quite simple; get back to the light weights and I’ll be fine in a week. So, here’s how my September will go…

-eat only fruits in the morning

-jog atleast three times a week, atleast 30minutes per workout

-find a descent swimming pool and bike course

-do stretches/light weights everyday

Yes, I decided to keep life as simple as I can. Wish me luck!

Rough and tough but not enough!!! November 23, 2006

Damn, last night was pretty disastrous. It was raining so hard that the window looked more like a painting, a bad one, too… And using the umbrella wasn’t the brightest idea, the raindrops would just hit the ground and bounce back up, hehe.

Oh yeah, and going to the swimming pool by bike was quite fun, too:-) I tell you, it was worth it!!! I could only go once a week and just couldn’t give it up. We did a total of 1350m, not much but I liked it.

200m warm up, 100m kick underwater, 25m*8 dolphin kick, 200m power pull, 50m loosen up, 25m*4 one handed butterfly, 25m*4 butterfly, 200m medley, 25m*4 butterfly, 100m cool down.

The 200m warm up&medley was a disaster. I still haven’t got my endurance level back to where it was before… Atleast my arms felt less crampy than last week, which I take as a good signal, hehe.

Today, I had my first run in 15days, after that incident in front of McDonalds!!!! aaarrrrggghh. A short 6km and again, my endurance level is way lower than before. I felt some drowsiness in my legs, they were completely out of energy after the run… but it felt good and relaxed.

1-10′49, 2-11′30, 3-10′43, a total of 33′03.

As you can see, I took it easy there, on the 2nd lap. I thought it was a decent start, it wasn’t like I was drooling and killing myself to finish the workout. I’ve been thinking about signing up for a marathon that’s coming up in February, 2007. But still gotta see how things workout. Good luck everyone!!!

Monochromatic vs. Colored November 17, 2006

I love looking at photos but I suck at taking them. For some reason, the black and white photos seem to look better than the colored ones (for me) when it comes to artistic impressions.

road.JPG        vs         road4.JPG

Which looks better?

Don’t talk about the photographer’s technique, I know I suck, hehe.

I still think the black and white photo looks slightly better…

So, I netsurfed. Just thought I might be able to find out why. Luckily, I found an article from a “photo technique” kinda magazine. Click here if you wanna read it. I know all this has nothing to do with triathlons but I looked back at my old posts and they all looked the same, all about tris and it bored me out a bit.

On the other hand, I found a professional photographer’s website that had beautiful, colored pics. I think he gives a strong impact on the “colors”. His name is Pete Turner. I only found his website today, so I’m not quite sure of his background but I really liked the photos. Especially the photo of Times Square(in misc. 1). I felt the coldness in the snow and it felt like the last race of the tri season just ended, into base phase, we go!!

Good luck strengthening your core!!!

How hard can a 100m swim be? November 16, 2006

Posted by clayton in : workout , 2 comments

After taking 3 months off from training? Last night’s swim was quite hard… I looked at the workout(the coach wrote it on a paper) and it was only a 1900m swim using up one whole hour. The swims are usually 2000~2700m/hour so I thought it would be a recovery swim or something. But 3 months does make a difference…

 The workout went like this: 200m warm up, 25m*8(backward medley) 1′00, 100m kick under water(3′00)+50m sculling(2′00)+100m swim(easy/hard/easy/hard, 2′00)+25m*2 medley(1′00), 4sets. And a 100m cool down.

I was breathing okay, but my arms and shoulders were out of shape, I guess. I just couldn’t push. It felt like I lost control of my arms. Sad but this is reality, I have to start again. Be optimistic and say it’s a chance to “reform” my form. Get rid of all the bad habits and stuff.

So, I’m expecting another tough swim next week but I’ll get used to it somehow, hehe. Good luck everyone!!!

Back in the game November 14, 2006

It wasn’t the ideal way of getting back, I guess a 10km run+swim+10km run wasn’t the best workout to start with…hehe. I injured my ankle in front of McDonalds last Wednesday:-( There was this one triangular rubber thingy that covered an electrical cord that led to one of McD’s signs and I stepped on it in a weird way.

Is it my fault that I didn’t watch where I was going? because I really don’t think anyone would expect this triangular rubber to exist on public roads/sidewalks. I’d probably get a million dollars if this happened in the US. If I remember correctly, I heard that one woman ordered hot coffee, spilt it on herself and sued McDonalds for not having a warning on the cup.

The next morning, I started getting some stomach problems…errr…didn’t sound too well. I guess my stomach knew when and when not to hurt, it was fine at school but the second I got home, PAIN!!! Smart stomach, don’t you think? Well, it lasted until today, Tuesday, so I took a day off from school and went to the hospital nearby. I drank some medicine before I went and the doctor didn’t know why in the world I was having problems, hehe. Here’s the great news (that a lot of guys will use their imagination and start smiling while reading), I talked to a beautiful nurse;-) She was nice, and since there weren’t any people around, she came over and talked to me. I can’t remember what she said, I think I was just looking at her the whole time, but I do remember myself responding, hehe. When I was in the lobby, after everything was done, I saw the same nurse trying to pin a poster on the bulletin board with another nurse. For some reason, they were trying to pin it up at a really high place and the cute nurse climbed up on a small shelf, then the woman at the front desk said, “I could see your panties.” and the cute nurse said, “I’m showing it on purpose.” Ofcourse, it’s a joke, hehe. But guess what? I was the only one around… She was cute though…I guess being sick is sometimes great, aint I right, guys? hehe. After I started training for tris, women started flirting a bit, does that mean I’m getting fit? It doesn’t happen all the time, maybe twice a month or so:-)

Back to the main topic, getting back in the game. Well, my plan was to start with a hard, painful base training but since that didn’t work well, I’ll change it to a build up. Swim once a week, bike only on weekends and run 30km/week when my ankle heals. Maybe have a slow start with the base phase and all.

Hope you all do fine and take care!!!

My sixth sense? August 13, 2006

Posted by clayton in : workout , 1 comment so far

My plan was to go out for an easy ride just to check the race course, and it was planned to be in the morning. I was too lazy, woke up around 10:30am, hehe. But it’s not like I didn’t go out…

So, after watching baseball on Tv and then studying Japanese History, I went out at 5:30pm. The problem was, I only knew half the way to the race course, hehe, stupid huh? The plan was to cruise until I hit a BIG sign that tells me where the place is. Unfortunately, there was no big sign… I ended up cruising into two different cities. Plans were changed, I need to find my way home:-( I saw a bus that had a little no23 on it which I knew, will eventually pass by my high school so I decided to chase it. Life is awkward… Here’s where my sixth sense comes in action. I think I went about 25km when I started chasing the bus. The bus stopped at a red light and I did so, too.

BUT!!!

The BIG BUT…

All of a sudden…

I felt like someone was watching me…

THEN!!!

I looked up in the bus and saw two young ladies facing toward me, one with bright brown hair waving at me and the other with black hair just staring and talking, laughing…

SO

I smiled and wave back…Ofcourse…

and then, for some reason, the young cute lady with the brown hair had her nifty cell phone camera facing at me, with a cute smile…

I did chase the bus all the way to my high school. In fact, I accidentally passed it when I went down one of the big hills, oops!!! Was easier than I thought.

I’m used to being looked at when I’m riding because a lot of evil looking drivers stare with the You’re Dead letters on their forehead. I just stare back with the Road Rage? letters on my head, hehe. But c’mon, young cute attractive women? sounds like some kinda dream…

You know what?

I like it when unusual things happen;-)

Have a great day, and watch out for those dangerous drivers…they’re evil…

You freakin’ CAT!!! August 12, 2006

Posted by clayton in : workout , add a comment

Well, I’d say I had a pretty good week. School was fine, I’m getting the hang of everything such as MATH!!!! which never happened before. Other than the three typhoons that happened to pass nearby, which made the weather awkward, nothing bad happened.

On the contrary…maybe something good did happen… There’s this convenience store I go to, probably like twice a day cause it’s so close. Well, the girl who works there now talks to me… Weird, eh? Maybe she’s tired of talking to all her coworkers. I only go there to buy a small bottle of green tea(which is amazing when you want to get your fat% down) and the French water, volvic. That’s really the only water I actually LIKE. Oh yeah, and when I’m outta’ my mind, I buy some ice cream. Not something a triathlete should do… Guess I still have a long way to go.

I wonder if my cat has any stess at all? I’m doing some kick ass studying and a little bit of training these days and this here, is what he does ALL DAY, EVERYDAY.

miki using my pillow.JPG

zzzzzzz…..errr, hello? That’s MY pillow you’re using…

OR

miki yawning.JPG

Now this only happens when he’s thirsty, hungry or

just feels like sleeping someplace else…

LIFE IS GREAT!!!!!

for him…

atleast he doesn’t have to worry about college, exams, etc…

 BUT THEN…

What will I be without all this worry?

To be honest, I think I like it…

Just to let y’all know, I started logging on my Training Log. I found it on my Links, clicked it and couldn’t believe my eyes, who made this wonderful program?? You ROCK!!! Why didn’t I get to know about this earlier? It even makes graphs for you!!! Nifty, eh? Am I the only person who’s able to look at it, or can all of you look at my log?

Another question. Is there a way to make the letter(is it called font?) colored/ bold/ big/ small? If there is, I’d love to know how. Appreciate your help:-) Maybe I’ll talk about my training tomorrow, maybe.

What time is it? August 7, 2006

Posted by clayton in : workout , 1 comment so far

My computer was a bit broken and I lent it to the store for about a week and IT IS BACK!!! So, that means I get to blog BUT I’m not going to everyday because I need the time to study…errr…I guess I’ll blog on weekends and holidays(Japanese) when I have the time.
Oh yeah, it’s about when I went to get my computer back. The store that fixed my computer’s in a shopping mall and I took a pic of the building next to it.

What time is it?

its p time!!.JPG

It’s P-TIME!!!

Ya know Japanese people with their English, right? They might as well make a building that says”Pooh time” on it. And the pic…it’s one of the small signs, they have this one big sign on the top, hehe.

Right now, we have this one thing called Obon going on in Okinawa. It started on the 6th and lasts till the 8th and it’s the three days that our ancestors come home and meet the family!!! During these days, you’ll see a lot of this on the island.

eisa2.JPG      eisa.JPG

The Eisa dance.

It’s not a Japanese thing, more like an Okinawan thing. I’ve done it before and it was pretty fun, maybe I should try again when I get into college. It’s a dance where the men hit the drums and move around while the women do this dance which is hard to explain. It’s neat though. Click the pic and it’ll get big. You’ll see that I only took a picture of the girls, hehe. They were all slender and cute, just for your info;-)

I haven’t been training for a while but one little thing happened to me that reminded me… Another letter from the Triathlon Association whatever telling me that my race number is 115, oh yeah, I have a race coming up. I’m gonna keep the training under 1hr on weekdays and 3hrs at the most on weekends, which will rarely happen. I have this one plan, how about a 30min trainer ride+4~6km jog, 4times on weekdays and 1swim, then for the weekend I’ll have a 10km run, longer ride and one swim or something. How’s that? I need to find a way to wake up at 5:30am and start studying by 7:30am being done with all the training I plan to do. It’ll start tomorrow if I wake up:-) Wish me luck!!! and best of luck for y’all!!!

Wow, an Okinawan woman in miss universe 2006 July 25, 2006

Posted by clayton in : workout , 1 comment so far

Yesterday, I went for a short swim, 1500m. 50m*2 warm up, 50m*10(1′00), 100m*5(2′00), 50m*2 loosen up, 100m*3(2′30). My nose was PRETTY bad afterwards.

Today, I went out for a 40km ride. Since there’s a typhoon nearby, the wind was super strong and it slowed me down big time. 1-40′12, avg speed 30.6kph, avg cadence 74rpm/ 2-46′50, avg speed 24.8kph, avg cadence 71rpm. 24.8kph… errrr, don’t have anything to say about that… It is still 9 in the morning so I’ll be studying the whole day. If I feel that I’m okay for the day and I have time for a swim, I’ll go.

And about the Okinawan woman, Kurara Chibana, she was 2nd place at the miss universe contest 2006. She also got the best national costume award kinda thingy. Just check this site. And I’ve heard that she is a triathlete. Dunno if she still tris but COOL;-) Okinawa’s such a small island and it’s nice to now we have BEAUTIFUL people here, like that other cutie I saw at the university, hehe.
